My wife needed to use the car, but I also needed to go 8 kilometres in the opposite direction, and the times of both were inconvenient. As her need was greater than mine, I volunteered to walk the 8 kilometres. After one and a half kilometres, 2 pieces of grit landed one in each shoe. Although very small, they impeded my walking, and were very uncomfortable. So I stopped to remove each shoe to rid me of the impediments. And as I did so, that verse from Hebrews 12 came to mind, “Let us lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” I reflected that the smallest sin can disrupt the Christian race unless it is dealt with and removed. Paul tells the Ephesians that our “feet are shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace.” That literally means, “The feet are under bound.” Under bound with all that the gospel provides us with to walk and to run in the paths of righteousness. One small bite ruined the human race, and one small sin not removed, can cripple us for our race. |
